About the Website Administrator

Debbie Lyn Jones, Information Technology Manager I and Norfolk State University Webmaster, manages the Norfolk State University websites and the Kentico Content Management System. The NSU Webmaster is also the point of contact for the assigned NSU Website Content Editors and Website Content Contributors

Debbie Lyn Jones has been working at Norfolk State University since April 4, 2002. Miss Jones was initially hired as the Senior Web Developer and Web Team Lead - (Information Technology Specialist III). Debbie was then promoted to NSU Web Services Manager / NSU Webmaster from the Web Team Lead position in December 2002. In 2004, Miss Jones was promoted to Information Technology Manager I, and continued to manage Web Services for Norfolk State University. In addition, this was the first in-house web team for NSU.

NSU Projects
Debbie was the creator of the Spartan E-Daily, Campus Announcements as well as Campus Alerts in early 2003. Projects include the Communications, Web Development and Marketing deliverables for SpartanShield (the original MyNSU), followed by the SpartanShield E-Commerce project, where Debbie was the Communications, Web Development, Marketing Deliverable leads, and co-lead on the Security deliverable.

Debbie was on many additional projects such as MyNSU and has been key to the in-house development of many web-based applications for the Norfolk State University Campus, such as the online GARF form, SAVES and etc.  
Debbie Jones was the project manager for the NSU Website Redesign project in 2008. Debbie planned and migrated the hand-coded website from a static server into the first NSU website content management system (Percussion CM1)  in 2009. This includes but is not limited to, coding the design, planning/setting up the system infrastructure, creating the hierarchy and workflows within Percussion CM1, migrating the content and testing prior to the rollout.  In addition, Debbie integrated the new redirect web-based application within Percussion CM1 (XML).  Debbie Jones is the technical support for the 2017 Web Redesign project, which was completed in September 2017.

Miss Debbie Lyn Jones has been working in front-end website development, web design, graphic arts & multimedia since 1990. Degrees in IT, multimedia & visual communication with a slant towards digital illustration and graphics. Extensive experience in business administration and the legal field (Paralegal) spanning over an additional 22 years (overlap between the fields). In addition, Miss Jones taught business administration and introduction to Paralegal at a local vocational school early in her career.

Debbie is a published illustrator and writer and has attended/graduated from a Paralegal (ABA certified Paralegal School with 4 academic awards), AAIT, BSIT/MVC, AST. Taught vocational school (Business Administration, Legal Secretary Foundations). Recently switched from BS-Multimedia & Visual Communications, to a BFA - 2D Animation/Illustration. Also enrolled in 18 month Art Academy program online. Debbie Lyn Jones is a Percussion CM1 Community Champion. Debbie Lyn Jones was awarded the Academy of Art University - Summer Portfolio Grant for the Summer 2016 semester.  Enrolled in the Christian Leaders Institute (CLI), May 2017 and working towards the Bachelor's degree.

The official Norfolk State University is managed and administered by Debbie Jones, who also designed the site between 2002 and 2013, with the most recent static design being a collaboration with Virginia Interactivity. Debbie Jones was responsible for coding/updating the official theme for the NSU Website, as well as the website designs within the website, with exception of the few sites maintained by website content editors that have the sub-role of HTML widget editors.

In addition, Debbie Jones sets strategy and key performance indicators and governance rules, as well as approves and monitors activity, develops, plans the NSU website strategy, determines the website infrastructure, architecture and is responsible for the performance management. Debbie Jones also drafts standards, guidelines and website policy in alignment with local, state and federal policy and laws and keeps documentation as necessary (NSU Webmaster SharePoint site).

Through use of the web content management system (WCM) Debbie codes and implements necessary changes to the official NSU website, which includes but is not limited to: navigation, banners, or other coded widgets and scripts. Some of the services offered by the NSU Webmaster are: redirects, site rename/move, site migration. 

Debbie Jones is also responsible for reviewing and approving all submissions for website content edits by the website content editors and contributors. Twice daily, publishing is schedule to move changes from the web content management system to the live servers and ensures all submitted items were published.

In addition the Debbie Jones manages the NSU website content editors and manages as well as offers continual training on accessibility, website content management and the web content management system.  Debbie Jones is a member of the State Webmaster's and since 2002 has been on the VITA Website Policy, Guidelines and Standards committee.

Debbie worked in the Office of Information Technology from 2002 to April 04, 2016 - where the Office of Communications and Marketing aligned the NSU Website and NSU Webmaster a part of their department.
